Facebook<\/strong> has yet to give its last word on the privacy and security issue that faced CEO Mark Zuckerberg<\/strong> last month. But now the social platform<\/a> is hoping that people will trust it not only with their data but also with their love lives.<\/p>\n

Facebook<\/strong> recently revealed, at its annual F8 developer conference<\/strong>, that it will be adding a dating feature to its mobile app. Zuckerberg<\/strong> noticed that more than 200 million users on Facebook<\/a> list themselves as single, so why not take advantage of that?<\/p>\n

After competing with every existing social media platform<\/strong>, Facebook<\/a> is now moving into the dating world, claiming that its service will help build relationships rather than just casual dating:<\/p>\n

\u2018This is going to be for building real, long-term relationships \u2013 not just for hookups,\u2019 Zuckerberg says.<\/p>\n

This new dating feature will be useful if you\u2019re looking for your other half but don\u2019t want your circle to know about it because Zuckerberg<\/a> promises that your Facebook friends<\/strong> won\u2019t see your dating profile.<\/p>\n

\u2018We\u2019ve designed this with privacy and safety in mind from the beginning. Your friends aren\u2019t going to see your profile, and you\u2019re only going to be suggested to people who aren\u2019t your friends. People already use Facebook<\/strong> to meet new people, and we want to make that experience better,\u2019 Zuckerberg<\/strong> explains.<\/p>\n

Users will create a dating profile that is separate from their Facebook profile<\/strong> and matches will be suggested based on things in common, mate preferences and mutual friends.<\/p>\n

We can all agree that Facebook<\/strong> is promising a high-quality experience, but given the recent privacy scandals, is it really ready to compete with not only Tinder<\/a> but also match.com<\/strong> and OKCupid<\/strong>? Will Facebook\u2019s<\/strong> entry weaken or strengthen its future rivals presence?<\/p>\n
