{"id":17520,"date":"2018-11-30T05:14:23","date_gmt":"2018-11-30T13:14:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.exoplatform.com\/blog\/?p=17520"},"modified":"2018-11-30T05:14:23","modified_gmt":"2018-11-30T13:14:23","slug":"cartoon-of-the-week-nasas-insight-mars-lander-is-safely-on-the-red-planet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.exoplatform.com\/blog\/cartoon-of-the-week-nasas-insight-mars-lander-is-safely-on-the-red-planet\/","title":{"rendered":"Cartoon of the Week: NASA\u2019s InSight Mars Lander is safely on the Red Planet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday, <strong>NASA\u2019s InSight Mars Lander<\/strong> survived \u2018seven minutes of terror\u2019 to finally arrive safely on <strong>Mars<\/strong>, taking up permanent residence on the <strong>Red Planet<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Following the dramatic touchdown, <strong>InSight<\/strong> has unfurled its solar arrays and is now ready to get down to business.<\/p>\n<p>Two days after landing on <strong>Mars<\/strong>, <strong>NASA\u2019s<\/strong> InSight lander is already sending back some selfies.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The <strong>InSight team<\/strong> can rest a little easier \u2026 now that we know the spacecraft solar arrays are deployed and recharging the batteries,\u2019 Tom Hoffman, <strong>InSight project<\/strong> manager at <strong>NASA\u2019s Jet Propulsion Laboratory<\/strong>, said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpl.nasa.gov\/news\/news.php?release=2018-276\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The aim of this mission is to investigate what is inside <strong>Mars<\/strong>, to listen for \u2018<strong>Marsquakes<\/strong>\u2019 and to figure out how many meteorites batter the <strong>Red Planet<\/strong>. This will take a lot of patience from the <strong>NASA<\/strong> guys as they explore the interior of <strong>Mars<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Landing was thrilling, but I\u2019m looking forward to the drilling,\u2019 InSight principal investigator <strong>Bruce Banerdt<\/strong> said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>NASA team<\/strong> is now going over a checklist to see if the lander is in good health and will stand up to time and conditions.
