{"id":19041,"date":"2019-02-22T04:00:05","date_gmt":"2019-02-22T12:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.exoplatform.com\/blog\/?p=19041"},"modified":"2019-02-22T04:00:05","modified_gmt":"2019-02-22T12:00:05","slug":"youtube-facing-a-second-adpocalypse-cartoon-of-the-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.exoplatform.com\/blog\/youtube-facing-a-second-adpocalypse-cartoon-of-the-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Cartoon of the Week: YouTube facing a second \u2018Adpocalypse\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Google-owned <strong>YouTube<\/strong> is coming under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.exoplatform.com\/blog\/2018\/01\/12\/logan-paul-youtube-cuts-ties-and-removes-channels-from-google-preferred-exo-platform\/\">criticism<\/a> (again) after allowing disturbing content to run on the platform.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Following an alarming report posted by blogger <strong>Matt Watson<\/strong> stating that <strong>YouTube<\/strong> is allowing \u2018soft-core pedophilia\u2019 to spread, a lot of brands are said to have pulled their advertising spending from <strong>YouTube<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the report, <strong>Watson<\/strong> showed how users can use the comment section on <strong>YouTube<\/strong> to identity sexually suggestive videos of children. <strong>YouTube<\/strong>\u2019s algorithm will then begin to recommend similar videos. He wrote: \u201c<strong>YouTube<\/strong>\u2019s recommended algorithm is facilitating pedophiles\u2019 ability to connect with each other, trade contact info, and link to actual CP in the comments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bloomberg reported that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.exoplatform.com\/blog\/2017\/12\/15\/cartoon-week-disney-dominate-entertainment-landscape\/\">Disney<\/a> had joined <strong>Nestl\u00e9<\/strong>, <strong>Epic Game<\/strong> and other companies in postponing their advertising out of concern about the report and because their ads were shown before the videos where &nbsp;pedophiles had infiltrated the comment sections: \u201c<strong>Disney<\/strong> has also withheld its spending, according to people with knowledge of the matter, who asked not to be identified because the decision hasn\u2019t been made public.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sadly for <strong>YouTube<\/strong>, this is not the first time it has been hit by issues around advertising.
