But did it kill <strong>collaboration<\/strong>? The answer is that it did not. In fact, the results are quite promising. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upwork.com\/i\/future-workforce\/fw\/2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\"><u>the Future Workforce Report<\/u><\/a> by UpWork, 56% of managers stated that working remotely has exceeded their expectations, with 62% planning to <strong>adopt remote working<\/strong> policies beyond the pandemic.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-574ba9b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"574ba9b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\r\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Yet <strong>remote collaboration<\/strong> is not without its challenges. Burnout, a sense of isolation, detachment from teams, and employees feeling untrusted by their managers are often cited as direct consequences of a poorly designed <strong>remote working<\/strong> policy. However, 56% of IT professionals have stated that they are in the dark about how much they spend on <a title=\"collaboration tools\" href=\"https:\/\/www.exoplatform.com\/team-collaboration-tools\/?utm_source=BlogEn&amp;utm_medium=Blog&amp;utm_campaign=Content&amp;utm_content=link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>collaboration tools<\/u><\/a>, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifesize.com\/en\/resources\/infographics\/hidden-costs-of-collaboration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\"><u>Spiceworks survey<\/u><\/a>. This is mainly due to the absence of a clear <a title=\"collaboration strategy\" href=\"https:\/\/www.exoplatform.com\/blog\/collaboration-in-business\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>collaboration strategy<\/u><\/a> which often leads to tools overload and hidden costs. According to the same study, an organisation deploys on average 4.4 solutions to meet the demands of its various teams, ranging from messaging apps to <a href=\"https:\/\/trueconf.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">video conferencing platforms<\/a>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-eea3676 myheader1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"eea3676\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\r\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\r\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">4. As the saying goes, \u201cPerhaps too much of everything is as bad as too little\u201d. The very idea that <strong>collaboration<\/strong> will help to solve all business problems may lead organisations to spend aimlessly and <strong>employees to collaborate<\/strong> just for the sake of it, for little to no results. And this is dangerous. <a href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2016\/01\/collaborative-overload\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\"><u>Research<\/u><\/a> by HBR has shown that employees spend 80% of their work day on collaborative activities such as meetings and emails, and less on productive tasks. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/netstorage.ringcentral.com\/documents\/connected_workplace_infographic.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\"><u>RingCentral<\/u><\/a>, the average worker uses approximately four communication apps, which is considered challenging by 70% of the 2,000 surveyed respondents. What makes matters worse is that upwards of 35% of all the <strong>efficient collaboratio<\/strong>n is performed by only 2% to 3% of all employees.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a2d0052 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a2d0052\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\r\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>So if too much collaboration is bad, how can the perfect balance be achieved?<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-38d09f3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"38d09f3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\r\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The answer lies in numbers. First, you have to try to minimise the number of apps used by employees. Try to limit it to one <strong>solution for each collaboration<\/strong> type, or one holistic platform that can group and integrate with all these solutions. You also have to ensure your teams do not use apps that are not approved by the IT department, as this obviously presents a security threat and makes it hard for teams to locate information.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-903810a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"903810a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\r\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Another way to get the perfect balance is to restructure your hierarchy and the way in which decisions are made. This can be done by reducing the number of decision makers, if possible. If information has to travel through many stakeholders in order for a decision to be made, then the process will invariably be long, involving endless email threads, unnecessary meetings, lost data along the way, and so on.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-126c8c1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"126c8c1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\r\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Finally, one of the main <strong>causes of over-collaboration<\/strong> is nice people who just can\u2019t say no when they should. Experienced professionals know that going through each email in their inbox, attending every meeting, or responding to every chat message, leaves no time to actually work.
