Sneak Peek: overview of the new application hub

In the latest version, eXo 7.1, the application hub has been revamped to become the heart of your productivity. This redesign has a clear goal: to simplify your daily life by providing you a smooth, consistent experience tailored to your work habits.

No more searching for your tools in multiple menus or tabs: you now have a single, intuitive, and customizable entry point to access all your applications, whether internal or external, with a single click.

A customizable toolbar for instant access to your favorite applications

Checking your calendar, writing a post, accessing a business tool, opening your email, or launching a videoconference: everyone has their own routines. With the redesign of the application hub, eXo has simplified these everyday tasks.

With the ability to pin your favorite applications, you can create your own shortcuts to the tools you use most. These applications are now accessible directly from the toolbar.

No more searching and unnecessary clicks: the interface adapts to your usage and allows you to stay focused on what matters most.

A redesigned app launcher for greater smoothness

The app launcher has been completely redesigned for smoother and more efficient navigation. The goal: to allow you to pick up where you left off.

The new “Recents” section highlights the apps you’ve used most recently. It becomes a preferred entry point for quickly and effortlessly switching between tasks.

Favorite apps, identified by a yellow star, are also highlighted. In full-screen mode, all available apps are displayed in a clear and structured manner. You can filter apps (favorites, pinned) or search by title or description.

Exploration made easy with categories

On a platform providing numerous applications, it is not always easy to find your way around. To address this issue, eXo has introduced a category-based organization system.

This allows you to explore all available applications, grouped by themes defined by the platform administrator. For example: collaboration, HR, productivity, business tools, etc.

This organization facilitates searching and also encourages the discovery of tools that are sometimes overlooked.

A single entry point for internal applications and third-party connectors

The application hub is not limited to eXo’s native features. It also integrates connectors to third-party applications, providing centralized access to all your tools.

The experience is unified: external applications open quickly and easily, in a centralized and secure manner, often via single sign-on. The application hub thus becomes the single point of entry for all your everyday tools, whether internal or external to the organization.

More flexible administration

Administrators also benefit from new options around the application hub:

  • Choose whether an application opens in a new tab (associated link) or whether it is an instance that opens directly on the eXo platform
  • Define its availability on mobile devices
  • Add an icon or image
  • Add categories
  • Adjust visibility according to profiles
  • Choose the position of an application in the list…

These settings allow the application hub to be adapted to different usage contexts, while maintaining an intuitive and controlled interface for end users.

With this new application hub, eXo Platform takes another step toward a digital workplace focused on real-world uses and operational efficiency. Customization, quick access, smart organization, and third-party application integration: these developments contribute to a more intuitive, smooth, and centralized experience.

This is a decisive step forward in helping users adopt digital tools more naturally and sustainably in their daily work.
