Cartoon of the Week: Apple, Amazon Join Race for James Bond Film Rights

eXo Platform Blog

Two big tech companies, Apple and Amazon, are joining the race for the James Bond film rights and are in a hot pursuit.

While Warner Bros. was at first seen as the most suitable suitor, these tech giants are now joining a growing list interested in picking up the 007 rights. Universal, Fox and Sony are also trying to secure new rights.

But now that these two unlikely suitors are involved, they’re raising the game and are competing not only for the film rights but for the entire franchise, which is valued at between $2 billion and $5 billion.

Amazon and Apple are both aiming at controlling the media we all want to watch, and neither is short of cash. It’s the most effective way for both of them to sell us the hardware to watch it, as well as the subscription services that go along with it.

“Apple’s and Amazon’s inclusion in the chase would indicate that more is on the table than film rights, including the future of the franchise,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The bright side of it is that if one of these giants wins the race, we can get more than just one movie every few years. Let’s think about the potential that James Bond has. We could even be watching a Bond series or some spin-off and I’m sure that we won’t get tired of it!

Will Amazon or Apple blow up James Bond? Let’s wait and see.
