eXo Platform 4.1 Milestone 2 Released

As promised in an earlier post, I’m happy to report our progress with eXo Platform 4.1.

We’ve just released the second milestone of the upcoming version of eXo Platform 4, whose main goal is to continue delivering on the UX excellence promise laid out by eXo Platform 4.0.

The new baby is called eXo Platform 4.1-M2. It is focused on enabling the much requested feature of version 4.1: the Video Calls add-on. Let’s review the key changes in this release.

Bug Fixes

As with any version, this milestone contains a bunch of corrections. This version is aligned with the bug fixes of Platform 4.0.6, which was released a few weeks ago.

We have also made fixes to the recently introduced email notifications feature. We’d like to thank the eXo tribe members for all the valuable feedback we received after putting this feature on the eXo Community website.

Video Calls Add-on

Last year, we started to work on integrating video calls with the chat application. As always, we put this great enhancement on the eXo Community website. The feedback was tremendous so we decided to make it an add-on of its own.

eXo Platform 4.1-M2 contains the necessary changes to make the video calls add-on and we are happy to release a preview. Download it and follow the install instructions.

How Is It Installed?

We still need everyone’s eyes to nail the nasty bugs and polish the rough edges. Please try it out and send us your feedback.

To install eXo Platform 4.1-M2, download the Tomcat bundle on SourceForge and install it as usual.

Note: Again, don’t be misled by the “milestone” label of this release. It should be fairly stable as it has already received a great amount of QA. In fact, we’re currently testing it further to seek green lights for a production deployment on eXo Cloud. More on this very soon.

Development is continuing and a release candidate is planned for August. This next release will be feature complete. Keep watching the status page to be the first to know how things are moving.
