Cartoon of the Week: Facebook reaches a new milestone

Facebook, the largest social media platform in the world, is getting even bigger. The company has just reached a new milestone with 2 billion monthly active users, as confirmed this week by CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg.

Facebook is beating the competition ruthlessly. With 2 billion users, it is above YouTube’s 1.5 billion, Twitter’s 328 million and Snapchat’s 255 million. We are still ignoring Facebook’s secret ingredient, even though its other apps have over 1 billion users, including WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger with 1.2 billion each.

So, if we summarise: there are four social networks in the world with more than 1 billion users and Mark Zuckerberg owns three of them. Obviously, any competitor in the social media space should think twice, or consider raising its level of performance, if it should ever think about competing with this hugely powerful social network.

In its mission to take over the planet, Facebook is updating its company mission from ‘Making the world more open and connected’ to ‘Bring the world closer together’. Facebook is now being used by more than one-quarter of the world’s population (currently estimated to be around 7.5 billion) and by two-thirds of the people who have internet access (3.2 billion).

I think that what is holding Facebook back in its bid to conquer the world is the fact that not everybody has access: it’s forbidden in some countries, under-13s can’t use it and other people don’t even have access to the internet. If they did, I bet we would be seeing much higher numbers.
