Starbucks announced this week that it will close all retail locations of La Boulange, a French-inspired bakery it acquired in 2013.
As a French startup in the valley, we naturally have a soft spot for the chain and are saddened by this news. We’re not alone – the cafés are so popular with San Francisco residents that a petition has been started to let them stand.
Unfortunately, this sort of news is common – particularly in the tech industry. Companies are frequently acquired for patents and talent, and a successful brand will often disappear following an acquisition.
